KSHC 1s vs Doncaster 1s

KSHC faced 3rd in the league team, Doncaster, on Saturday 9th March. With the irony of the weather calling off the plans of Janette McWhirter, she was be present on the sidelines with her motivation and positivity.

Kirkby Stephen started off stepping up to Doncaster, playing some beautiful hockey from both sides. Nicole Clegg made a tremendous break down the right wing, with her speed, overtook the defender and played the ball across to Anthea Bowman in the D. While Anthea drove the ball towards the keeper, Lucy Potter made a great run to the penalty spot, where Anthea slipped the ball across and Lucy finished it to give KS a 1-0 lead.

Doncaster did not let the home side get away with it so lightly, and played some superb hockey, and unfortunately managed to bag two goals from counterattacking a break from their half.

In the second half, both teams didn’t manage to produce any outcomes, but some fantastic link work was played and KS didn’t let the score bring them down. Sophie Winder (goalkeeper) made numerous saves at all angles and heights, with several 1-on-1s with the attackers. At such a young age, Sophie showed great confidence and no fear in the goals, blocking any more goals past the home goal line, and was awarded with man of the match.

Final score – 2-1
