Ladies 1s 2-1 Kendal 1s

Another victory to Kirkby Stephen Hockey Club Women’s 1s last Saturday, beating Kendal 1s 2-1. A challenging game this week as Kirkby Stephen throughout the game were presented with chances to score, but not always being critical in front of the goal. Anna Pigney scored the first goal through excellent attacking in the D, getting the ball past Kendal defenders and sneakily tapping the ball in. Anthea Bowman then skilfully scored the second goal on her reverse stick, after receiving the ball from Anna from the base line. Throughout the game came numerous penalty corners, with Rachel Law swiftly saving a goal on the line from one of Kendal’s penalty corners. Eventually Kendal scored their first goal after some great and determined defending from Kirkby’s own Rachel Law, Mel Parkin and Vicky Potter, as well as super goalie, Sophie Winder. Despite a slippery pitch, Kirkby Stephen played yet another strong and gritty game, with excellent drive from the forwards – Lucy Potter, Anna Pigney and Mags Donnelly. The midfielders – Anthea Bowman, Heidi Maughn, Julie Hope, Nicole Clegg and Sally Addison, also never gave up and ran their hearts out throughout.

They take on Wimslow away this weekend.
