On Saturday, Kirkby Stephen ladies second team travelled to Ulverston to go against the top of the league and unbeaten South Lakes 1st Team.
The game started with South Lakes having most of the possession of the ball; however Kirkby’s attack of Lucy Ewbank,Emily Jackson and Ruth Stickings pressured SL defence as they passed the ball quickly round the back. SL broke through to Kirkby’s defence of Ella Capstick,Alice Fawcett, Carla Boustead, Lit Newcombe however they marked players well in the d to make it harder for SL to get a goal. Kirkby goalie Jenny Coates made lots of great saves unfortunately SL got a goal. Despite more goals from SL Kirkby kept fighting. In the second half Kirkby stepped up there game. Kirkby’s midfield of Lottie Dunning and Nicole Clegg pressured players with the ball and distributed the ball to players. Leah Boustead, Kodi Elliot on the wings both did some runs down the sides of the pitch however couldn’t get past the SL defence. Kirkby kept fighting and were determined to get a goal but unfortunately they weren’t rewarded with this and SL managed to get more goals into the back of the net . The whistle blew for end of time with an overall score of 10-0 to SL.
On Saturday Kirkby Stephen seconds play Ulverston ladies 1st at home
On Saturday, Kirkby Stephen ladies 2nd team travelled to Carlisle to go against Carlisle ladies 2nd.
The game started with both teams fighting hard for the ball. Soon, Kirkby Stephen gained a short corner from Lucy Ewbank but unfortunately Kirkby couldn’t get it past Carlisle’s defence. There were quick runs down each wing from Kodi Elliot and Leah Boustead but unfortunately Kirkby still didn’t gain a goal and Carlisle soon came back at Kirkby putting pressure on Kirkby’s defence of Emma Thorpe, Di Boustead, Vikki Capstick, Lisa Bousfield and Lit Newcombe…… however they stayed strong not letting Carlisle through .Kirkby gained control of the ball which was distributed to Anthea Bowman and Nicole Clegg in mid field Leah Boustead drove the ball down the wing and passed the ball to Emily Jackson who slotted the ball past the Goal Keeper. After half time Carlisle came back strong making the game and to end Sophie Winder in Goals made some great saves keeping the score at 1-0. There were also some great runs from Lottie Dunning in midfield and Ella Capstick up front however Kirkby couldn’t get the ball past Carlisle defence and goalie. Carlisle and Kirkby kept battling but eventually the whistle blew and the end score was 1-0 to Kirkby.
Next week Kirkby Stephan 2nds play away against south lakes while Kirkby Stephen 1sts play at home against Didsbury Northern 1st
